Historic Canadian tungsten zone being drill-tested in supply-constrained market

A Metal With Few Substitutes, a Supply Chain Dominated by One Country, and a Historic Canadian Tungsten Zone Being Drill-Tested Again

PR Newswire

VANCOUVER, BC , Aug. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Equity Insider News Commentary - Of all the critical minerals now caught up in the race for supply-chain security, tungsten may be the one with the widest gap between how essential it is and how little of it the Western world controls. It has the highest melting point of any metal and is exceptionally difficult to substitute in many critical applications, including cutting tools, armor-piercing munitions, aerospace components, and electronics that modern industry and defense depend on. Yet its mining and processing are among the most concentrated of any strategic metal, dominated overwhelmingly by China, which has moved to tighten exports. That combination has turned a once-obscure metal into a policy priority in Washington, Ottawa, and allied capitals, and it has sent explorers back to high-grade deposits that were drilled decades ago and shelved when tungsten was cheap and Chinese supply was plentiful. Active companies in the space this week include: GoldHaven Resources Corp. (CSE: GOH) (OTCQB: GHVNF) (FSE: 4QS), Almonty Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: ALM), EQ Resources Limited (OTC: EQRLF), Adamera Minerals Corp. (OTC: DDNFF), and Vault Strategic Mining Corp. (OTC: KNXFF).

The strategic backdrop is what has changed the math. Tungsten is recognized as a critical mineral precisely because its properties, extreme hardness, density, and the highest melting point of any metal, make it exceptionally difficult to substitute. Global production and processing are highly concentrated, which is why governments in Canada, the United States, and allied nations have made building secure and diversified tungsten supply chains an explicit priority. Against that policy tailwind, the incentive to identify and re-evaluate potential new sources of supply in stable mining jurisdictions has rarely been higher. More background on the sector is available through Equity Insider .

Nowhere is that re-evaluation more visible than in renewed exploration of historic tungsten prospect. Across North America and beyond, companies are dusting off past-producing mines and decades-old drill data, applying modern geological and geophysical tools to deposits that were mapped long before tungsten became a security concern. One such deposit in northwestern British Columbia has just moved from that re-evaluation stage into active drilling.

Drilling Begins on a Historic Tungsten Zone in British Columbia

GoldHaven Resources Corp. (CSE: GOH) (OTCQB: GHVNF) (FSE: 4QS) recently announced that it has commenced its maiden drill program at its 100%-owned Magno Project in northwestern British Columbia, with the first hole of the 2026 campaign targeting the historic Kuhn tungsten zone. The company frames it as an important transition from surface exploration and target development to drill testing across a large polymetallic system prospective for tungsten, silver, lead, zinc, copper, and other critical and strategic metals.

Key points from the company's disclosure include:

GoldHaven's first-ever drill hole at Magno is being collared, where historical exploration identified multiple zones of tungsten mineralization associated with scheelite.

The company reports historical drilling at Kuhn returned several significant tungsten-bearing intervals, including 13.0 metres grading 0.55% WO3; 11.3 metres grading 0.59% WO3 and 0.10% MoS2; 6.0 metres grading 0.58% WO3; 4.4 metres grading 0.75% WO3 and 0.17% Cu; and 4.0 metres grading 1.32% WO3 and 0.26% MoS2.

Historical work at Kuhn and the nearby Dead Goat area produced an estimate of approximately 616,500 tonnes grading 0.48% WO3 across four modelled lenses. This is a historical estimate only; it is not a current mineral resource, GoldHaven is not treating it as current, and additional drilling and technical work would be required to verify it under NI 43-101 standards.

Kuhn is the first phase of a broader drill program evaluating multiple styles of mineralization across the approximately 37,000-hectare Magno Project, which the company says hosts high-grade silver, lead, zinc, tungsten, and other occurrences.

"Commencing drilling at Magno is an important milestone for GoldHaven. We are starting at Kuhn, where compelling historical tungsten intercepts provide us with a strong foundation for our first drill program and an opportunity to evaluate the system using modern exploration techniques," said Rob Birmingham, President and CEO of GoldHaven, in the company's release. "With tungsten becoming increasingly important to secure critical-mineral supply chains, we believe Kuhn is a timely and exciting place to begin. Importantly, it represents just one target within the much larger polymetallic system we are exploring across Magno."

The company has been careful to frame the historical figures appropriately: the historical drill results have not been independently verified by GoldHaven and should not be relied upon as current results, and the planned program is intended, in part, to test and verify that historically reported mineralization. In other developments across the tungsten space this week:

Almonty Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: ALM)

Almonty Industries is one of the largest tungsten producers in the world outside China, with producing and development assets across South Korea, Portugal, and Spain, anchored by its flagship Sangdong mine. It has positioned itself explicitly as a Western-aligned supplier of tungsten for the defense and industrial needs of the United States and its allies, making it the reference point for what a de-risked, at-scale, non-China tungsten supplier looks like.

Almonty has drawn significant investor attention in 2026 as it advanced Sangdong toward commercial production, moved its listing to the Nasdaq, and reported strong share-price performance amid the tungsten supply squeeze. It is referenced to illustrate the scale and strategic positioning a tungsten producer can achieve, a far larger and more advanced company than an early-stage explorer, included here as sector context rather than as a comparable to any exploration-stage name.

EQ Resources Limited (OTC: EQRLF)

EQ Resources is a tungsten producer and developer whose assets include the Mt Carbine project in Queensland, Australia, and the Barruecopardo operation in Spain, giving it active production alongside expansion projects. It represents the operating end of the tungsten market, a company already producing concentrate while working to grow output as prices rise.

EQ Resources reported a record quarter in 2026 and has signaled continued growth ambitions, including interest in a potential U.S. listing, as it capitalizes on strong tungsten prices. It is referenced to illustrate how an established tungsten producer scales in the current environment, a company at a materially different stage from an early-stage explorer, cited here as sector context.

Adamera Minerals Corp. (OTC: DDNFF)

Adamera Minerals is a North American exploration company that has assembled a portfolio of tungsten-skarn properties in Washington State, including its Talisman, Tungsten Ridge, and Pierre Creek claims, positioning it as an early-stage participant in the push to build domestic U.S. tungsten supply. Its exploration-stage, skarn-focused profile makes it a closer stage-and-style reference for a company just beginning to drill a historic tungsten skarn.

Adamera has been among the more active tungsten explorers, staking additional ground and advancing early exploration as interest in domestic tungsten has grown, and it has ranked among the stronger-performing tungsten-linked names over the past year. It is referenced to illustrate the early-exploration end of the tungsten opportunity, a separate company with its own projects and stage, included only as sector context.

Vault Strategic Mining Corp. (OTC: KNXFF)

Vault Strategic Mining is focused on its War Bond tungsten project in Nevada, a package that includes several historical past-producing tungsten workings, and it has been advancing early exploration and a maiden technical report as it pursues a domestic U.S. tungsten strategy. Like the featured company, its approach centers on re-evaluating historically productive tungsten ground with modern tools.

Vault has been actively exploring War Bond in 2026, deploying sampling and geophysical surveys and moving toward a maiden NI 43-101 technical report while emphasizing the U.S. move to secure domestic tungsten supply. It is referenced to illustrate the trend of reviving historic North American tungsten districts, a separate early-stage company with its own project and jurisdiction, cited here only as sector context.

Why the Tungsten Re-Rating Reaches All the Way to the Drill Bit

The thread connecting these companies is a single strategic reality: the West needs tungsten it does not currently control, and the response is playing out across every stage of the supply chain at once. At the top are established producers racing to expand non-China output; in the middle are developers advancing past-producing assets toward a construction decision; and at the earliest stage are explorers putting drills into historic, high-grade ground that modern techniques may finally unlock. Each drill program that tests a decades-old tungsten zone is a small experiment in whether the West can rebuild a supply chain it largely ceded.

For an early-stage company, that backdrop is an opportunity and a risk in equal measure. Exploration is highly speculative, most projects never become mines, and historical estimates and unverified historical intercepts, like those referenced at Kuhn, are not current mineral resources and may not be confirmed by modern drilling. This commentary describes a sector and the companies active within it, and is not a prediction about any company's stock or a recommendation of any kind. But with tungsten's strategic importance rising and drilling now underway on a historic Canadian zone, the story is one worth following through the Equity Insider GoldHaven landing page as results emerge.
